This tool has been a long-time coming on my list. What a great idea…the one place you DON’T ever want to have to drag an air hose is onto a roof…especially if you’re shooting only a handful of fasteners. We all know that compressor set-up is a time-killer.
CR175C Features
First of all, this nailer is designed as a repair tool, not a production item. If you need to install an entire roof, this is not the tool you want to grab first. However, if you only need to install 1 to 3 squares, you’re in luck – that’s the designed load range for this baby.
From an ease-of-use standpoint, it fits neatly in its own backpack, which is perfect for transporting the tool up and down the ladder. There’s additional room for fasteners, safety glasses and maybe even lunch.
The included tether is a nice addition to the package. You also get a starter pack of nails along with the battery and charger.The included Quick-Start Guide is invaluable as a means of avoiding the instruction manual.
The tool has a solid feel without being heavy or unbalanced.
Paslode CR175C Performance
When it comes to performance, it does the job well. It responds like the rest of the Paslode Cordless family, which has been a pretty solid line-up for me for well over 10 years. Loading the coil was fairly easy. I get a little fumble-fingered whenever I’m loading coils as opposed to strips for some reason. I was able to get them into the magazine, align them properly and close the cover with minimum effort.
An adjustable shingle guide is built in to the bottom of the tool, which can be beneficial, especially if you’re installing those aforementioned 3 squares. The adjustable depth of drive is nice for obvious reasons; I just wish it was a tool-less feature. The allen wrench required for the adjustment rides onboard, but like all small parts, will likely find its way into a black hole one day, never to be seen again.
The tool uses Paslode’s Nailer’s Choice Fuel + Nail packs. Each pack contains a fuel cell and 6 coils of nails.
The fuel cell is designed to drive at least those six coils without needing replacement, hopefully eliminating some jobsite frustration (and some choice words generally spoken to no one in particular).

Overall, I really like this nailer. It makes perfect sense for anyone doing roof repair or remodeling. Used properly, you’ll definitely see a reduction in time spent on the job compared to a pneumatic version.
It’s not cheap, but quality rarely is. $389 buys you the nailer, tether, safety glasses and a fuel/nail pack. The individual fuel/nail packs are available for $12.99. If you want only the fuel cell, it’s $10.99 (yes, they’re encouraging you to use only the Paslode fasteners in this tool).
