Milwaukee Power Port 2349-20 Charger Review

I had a Honda Prelude that I loved.  One of the things I liked about it was the cigarette lighter power port stayed on even when the car was turned off.  So if I needed to charge my cell phone without running the car, I could.  The SUV I have now doesn’t have that option. Even though I have a car charger for my phone, GPS, and other small electronic devices, I can’t get much of a charge if I’m taking a short drive from point A to point B.  That’s why I need, and have additional charging devices, not to mention the times away from a vehicle my phone needs a boost.  Milwaukee’s power port charger is a great solution.

The Milwaukee M12 Power Port just might be a contractor’s new BFF.  You’re familiar with the concept, there are several of them out there, but this one is different for several reasons.

Is Milwaukee M12 Power Port Different?

It’s from the Milwaukee M12 line and if you’re a contractor or a tradesman on a job site, you’re bound to have several tools from this line.  That means you already have the batteries.  So adding this tool is a no-brainer.  And since it’s small and lightweight, just keep it in your tool bag with a couple of charged M12 batteries.  Then you’ll always have an available charge it you need it.

It uses the Milwaukee M12 battery, which packs a lot of power into a small device. When testing it, I got a full charge for my phone from a very low battery and the battery still had some life left.  Milwaukee claims it will fully charge up to 5 devices on a single pack.  I think that probably depends on the age of the battery and what devices being charged.  I tested it with an M12 battery that I've had for awhile and even though the indicator light suggested the battery was completely charged, I got only 1 full charge and another partial charge for my iPhone.  But I’ve used other brand's similar products and this one out-charged the others. Overall, I am pleased with the performance.

DC and USB Ports

Another big difference:  The Milwaukee version has both DC and USB Ports.  And you can use them both at the same time.  So if you need to charge you phone with your car charger and another device like a camera or tablet with the USB port, you have that option.

Or you can use each port individually, with a car charger or a USB cable.

Fuel Gauge:

Insert an M12 battery, and a green light comes on indicating the charge status of the battery being used.  This light will go off until a device is plugged into one of the ports.

Final Thoughts:

Overcharge Protection keeps your M12 battery safe.  The two ports are designed to charge (or power) 12V automotive or 5V USB powered appliances, but if something is plugged in that draws more current, the device will shut off automatically.

In the Tool Skool workshop there’s already been a bit of fighting and jealousy about who gets to continue testing this tool.  Contractor Dana Wilkerson is pouting a bit that it didn’t end up in his tool bag.  Funny, they never fight over who gets to carry the hammer or who gets which screwdriver.

At the time of this post, the Milwaukee M12 Power Port is available through several online retailers for a little less than $30.  That’s tool only: no battery or charger.  It's a small price to pay to keep all your devices up and running on the job site.
