Gorilla Glue Single Use Tubes | Review

Sometimes Great Ideas Come in Small Packages

When is less more? When it is the Gorilla Glue Single Use. These new tubes are great for one-time fixes and can be easily stored anywhere you need them. Gorilla Glue is also available in 36 oz., 18 oz., 8 oz., 4 oz. and 2 oz. sizes.

While you can’t purchase just one (think Lay’s) they come four to a pack and retail a little under $5.00. Each tube is .11 oz. or, 3 grams each.  Now, the 2 oz. bottle retails at about the same price so, you are getting almost 1.5 oz. more but, if you aren’t going to need that much, the single-use tubes pay for themselves.

Background:

If you aren’t familiar with Gorilla Glue, it is polyurethane glue that expands (3-4 times its original size) while it cures. So, you don’t need a lot and it is great for gluing almost anything. It is 100% waterproof and temperature resistant so it excels at both indoor and outdoor fixes.

RTFD – It is important to read the directions, most failures are a result of user-error. They are not tough to understand and there are not too many of them:

• Damp it
• Glue it
• Clamp it

You see, polyurethane glues are moisture activated and since most people don’t damp the surface to be glued, the results can be less than satisfying.

They do recommend using gloves. What makes this such a strong and versatile glue is also the exact same thing that will make it stick to your fingers. I spent almost three days with this dark discoloration on my fingers because I thought I wouldn’t need the gloves.

If you do get some on your hands, try using warm water with an abrasive soap like LAVA as soon as possible. You’ll probably want to moisturize as well as this type of soap can remove skin.

Put to Use:

I finely misted the entire board to ensure the glue would activate. Simply screw on the cap and the black top pulls right off. Squeezing from the point closest to the tip provided controlled and even distribution but, once you stop applying pressure it seemed to allow the glue to settle towards the back.

To get all of the glue out, the old toothpaste roll trick was employed. You’ll see the difference in the application as the flow was harder to control. Much like a caulk tube in a gun, unless the pressure is released, it just keep flowing and since there isn’t a release, it can be problematic for small or precision joints.

Final Thoughts:

Single-use? Seems like more glue than necessary for small jobs. But, just like beer, it is better to have too much than not enough. I did come back the next day and was able to use it again.

That being said, one is going in my truck box, another in my backpack and the last one, it will go in the kitchen junk drawer while my 2 oz. bottle will stay on the workbench.
