LEDs have certainly changed the way the the world sees things. I really wish we'd have waited on the CFL rush for LED technology to settle down in structure and price, because it is truly the way to go.

This lantern from Coast stands as proof in my eyes. It's a lightweight, portable unit that packs a pretty decent punch. I like to use it as a patio table light, since I can set the perfect light level for any occasion.

The easy-to-use control dimmer knob and push-button ON/OFF switch are pretty simple to navigate. I didn't have any problems with the dimmer control - it seemed to operate smoothly with only minor "jumps" in light output.

The bright white light (for you East Tennesseeans - that's pronounced "brat wat lat") is nicely adjustable from in-your-face blasting to a gentle glow. In addition, there's a solid red emergency beacon and a setting to make the red light flash, for even more "notice-ability".

In all, for under $30, this is a nice light to have around the house or boat. Surprisingly, even though it uses 4 "D" cell batteries, it's not that heavy.
