WARN's Multi-Tool For Your Rig

Few would argue the value and versatility of the basic multi-tool. Whether you need a screwdriver, a knife, pliers, whatever - it's nice to have them combined in one compact package. That's the idea behind WARN's PowerPlant series - you have your handy winch and compressor all in one slick, bumper-mounted unit.

If you're an off-roader, this is a no-brainer, but these units have become pretty useful in the construction and home improvement arenas in the past few years, too. Being able to hoist or pull large loads with a powerful winch makes total sense. Add a compressor to the mix, and it's a dream tool that's with you wherever you go.

We stopped by the WARN booth at SEMA this year to see what's new with their PowerPlant series. We were impressed.

PowerPlant Features

The two units - the 9.5 and the HD 12 - are pretty much identical except in terms of capacity, with the 9.5 able to pull 9500 pounds and the 12 able to pull 12,000 pounds.winchwinchCompressor Specs: MAX 100 psi, 5cfm @ 90psiA conveniently oversized switch makes it easy to change from compressor to winch and back, even while wearing gloves.winch

Our Opinion

As always, WARN has put a lot of thought, money, and common sense (a rarity sometimes) into the PowerPlant's redesign. The unit looks fresh, with its updated flat black finish, and the features seem to make sense for the end-user. At close to $2000, it's quite an investment. That said, it's a big comfort knowing it has the WARN badge on it. Thumbs-up.
