Ryobi Tek4 Inspection Scope Review

Inspection scopes used to be found in only high-end shops and tool bags. These days, the price has dropped to the point where it doesn't make sense not to have one. Ryobi's Tek4 Inspection Scope is a perfect example of top-notch electronics at a low price - and it fits comfortably in the palm of your hand.

Tek4 Scope Features

  • Designed for plumbing, HVAC and home inspection
  • 9mm camera head
  • Flexible 3 foot cable
  • 4 stage LED light
  • Magnification
  • Horizontal Flip

Ryobi Inspection Scope Uses

This scope is the right size and price for a number of jobs around the house. I've used it for dryer inspection, looking into walls, peering down drains, looking behind large objects instead of moving them. The list goes on.

Inspection Scope

I like the fact that you can dim or brighten the LED light, adapting it to whatever the conditions require. Plus, all the controls are conveniently located in one place, adjacent to the screen.

Inspection Scope

The camera head is a little larger than some of the higher-end units available, but unless you're inspecting engine cylinders, this shouldn't affect performance at all. To inspect something inside a wall, you need to drill a hole a little larger than 5/8". This is easily repaired with drywall compound if necessary.

Inspection Scope

The extra long 3 foot cable is flexible and can be maneuvered into a variety of locations and positions.

Inspection Scope

The screen is crisp and bright. It's easy to see detail in almost any situation, even in daylight.

Inspection Scope

It runs on the 4 volt Tek4 batteries, so if you already own any of the Tek4 line, you have extra batteries.

Tek4 Inspection Scope Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Lightweight
  • Easy to operate and understand
  • Inexpensive

Cons:

  • Large camera head diameter
  • No memory storage
  • Cable wrapping somewhat easy to nick

At $99, it's hard to find a reason not to buy the Tek4 Digital Inspection Scope from Ryobi. You'll find similar tools with similar features priced much higher, the added benefits being digital storage and smaller camera heads. If those aren't of particular importance to your work (those cylinder heads), then I don't think you'll be disappointed in the performance or quality of this tool.
